The University of Oregon Healthcare Center addition and renovation is designed to provide a state-of-the-art health care experience to its growing student body. The clinic adds a 23,500 sq. ft. 3-story addition increasing clinic space in the Healthcare Center by over fifty percent. The additional clinic space provides a flexible platform for growth in support of an expanded range of services, including; Acute Care, Lab, Imaging, Dental, Physical Therapy, Behavioral Health and Counseling services.
With a new entry, registration, and central waiting areas all organized around healing views and daylight, the clinic creates a youthful yet calming expression of health. The new central waiting space uses clear wayfinding pathways to direct patients to private sub-waiting areas in preparation for their appointment.
As good stewards of the clinic’s existing spaces, the design team worked to maximize existing clinical exam rooms while simultaneously improving patient access and caregiver utilization of these spaces. The project remodeled over 10,000 sq.ft. of the existing clinic to create a more contiguous and flexible space that allowed caregivers to build upon their patient-centered care approach.
Given the complexity of the remodel, the design team worked closely with the contractor and the University’s caregivers to manage a phased construction schedule to allow all clinic services to remain in operation throughout construction.
