The Emergency Department at Swedish Medical Center needed an update to its interior space that would provide for a better flow of patients and staff. Additionally, the center needed to accommodate its pediatric patients into the department.
CKA added five new pediatric rooms and renovated the reception and waiting areas, and added a vestibule. The waiting area is now divided, with updated finishes and furnishings, between family (pediatric) and adult waiting areas. The layout is also set up to respond to various work patterns: bedside registration or, when crowding demands, registration at Triage/Registration rooms in front. The new security desk provides a subtle background of safety for staff and visitors. The new, vertical vestibule improves visibility of the sunken entrance from the street level.
