Tacoma Specialty Clinic’s needs have changed since it first moved into its existing building owned by Group Health. Clark/Kjos analyzed the building’s current configurations and developed a master plan to take them to the year 2020.

In addition to capacity needs, the clinic recently changed its operational model and adopted a flexible service approach that requires related specialties to be adjacent to one another. The result of this new service approach was to create a large specialty clinic for medical and also for surgical. To achieve the reorganization, CKA identified, and then designed the remodel of many areas on all four levels, including a new lobby. Similar specialties share space within these clinics and exam rooms are configured to support more than one specialty. This layout facilitates better utilization of exam rooms, simpler cross referrals and better communication.
